Tamil Nadu did not take long to wrap up their South Zone Ranji
Trophy league match against Goa at the MA Chidambaram stadium
on Saturday morning. They needed only 12 overs to dismiss Goa, 90
for four overnight, for 137. With their runaway victory by an
innings and 197 runs, Tamil Nadu finished their engagements with
31 points. They now await the outcome of the match between
Karnataka and Hyderabad. A victory for either side would give the
South Zone championship to the winning side. If the Hyderabad
match ends in a draw, then Tamil Nadu will win the title.
Goa's resistance was totally passive in the morning. Atul Ranade,
24 overnight, went on to get top score of 44. He faced 53 balls and
hit six fours. But off spinner Ashish Kapoor brought the innings to
a swift end by picking up three of the five wickets that fell
on Saturday. The former India bowler finished with four for 33 and
had match figures of seven for 63. S Suresh took three for 28.
N Naik who was injured in the first innings did not bat.
