all over red rover! More impressive glovework from the exceptional Jones. Kasperek skips down but is beaten by the quicker one which flies between bat and body. Jones is unsighted but whips the bails off for a sharp stumping, and England win by 46
ENG Women vs NZ Women, 1st T20I at Chelmsford, NZ-W in ENG, Sep 01 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
"It felt really good," Tammy Beaumont tells the BBC. "We knew that New Zealand were going to come really hard at us but it was just a case of assessing the conditions and sticking to our strengths. It was more the timing to take [Kasperek] down. It wasn't necessarily a predetermined plan but on the night that was working. [Opening] I've probably been under pressure for my spot over the last few years so I really wanted to put in a good performance. I've been wanting to do this for a while. [Depth] You look at Emma Lamb who has been brilliant for a number of years and you have so much pressure on you but that's a challenge to push yourself and continually improve."
That's all from us tonight. Thanks for joining us - we'll be back on Saturday for the second T20I at Hove.
Satterthwaite the only batter to get going for New Zealand, whose chances of chasing that mammoth total down were effectively over when the Smash Sisters managed only 3 off 12 between them. Clinical by England after Tammy Beaumont's excellent 97 set things up. Amy Jones brilliant too, first with the bat and then with the gloves.
punched to cover
cramped for room, and they squeeze a single out towards straight midwicket as Ecclestone scrambles round to her right
hacked over the infield for four more! Ecclestone drops too short and Kerr frees the arms, nailing it up and over extra cover
mistimed to extra cover
thumped straight to Sciver on the edge of the ring at extra cover, who throws at the keeper's end while down on her knees. Jones whips the bails off, lightning-fast as ever, and Newton is short of her ground
hacked out to wide long-on
slower ball down the leg side, Newton waits for it, and pulls it away over backward square
another slowie, wide on the crease and thumped out to long-off
slower ball, mistimed down the ground to long-on
wide on the crease but angled down the leg side, past Newton's pull. Beats Jones and harshly given as byes rather than wides
swing and a miss outside off
slower ball, mistimed straight back down the ground... for six! Didn't get it out of the middle by any means but it flew away. Back-of-the-hander, moosed over Sciver's head
back-of-the-hand slowie, inside-edged into the crease
thickish edge, blinding take by Jones up to the stumps! Brilliant keeping. Rowe threw the kitchen sink at this, looking to go over the leg side, but got a thick outside edge, low on the bat, and Jones make a very difficult chance look simple
banged in short, top-edged pull, Lamb is running in from the boundary at fine leg... but can't get in quickly enough and it scoots under her for four
thumped back down the ground and beats Villiers, diving to her left at long-on
wide on the crease, slower ball, chipped down to long-off on the bounce
another slower ball, punched back to the bowler
punched down to long-on
