A studious, tenacious batsman with a steady temperament, Siddhesh Lad emerged as Mumbai's "crisis man" while still relatively new at first-class level.

Under the tutelage of Pravin Amre, Lad swiftly ascended through the age-group circuit in Mumbai to make his first-class debut in November 2013, at the age of 21. He showed his mettle in just his second match, scoring impressive fifties against a Delhi attack that included Ashish Nehra. After battling through injuries and illness, Lad came back to have good seasons in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

Often batting in the lower middle order, he stood out for his calmness under pressure and sensible approach to batting with the tail. These traits came to the forefront in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy final, when Lad scored 88 and was instrumental in the 103-run, 10th-wicket stand that set up Mumbai's victory.

Lad has expressed his eagerness to develop his credentials in the shorter formats as well. He was bought by Mumbai Indians prior to the 2015 IPL season, but did not play a match.
