Nick Selman, a former Australian Rules footballer at state age-group level, has dual Australian-British citizenship and signed up with Glamorgan after spending most of the 2015 season playing for Kent second XI and also making one appearance for Gloucestershire.
His Glamorgan debut season in 2016 included two Championship hundreds and he followed up with four more the next summer as he established himself, at only 21, as an important part of their Champioship line-up. In his maiden hundred against Northants, he also became the first Glamorgan batsman to carry his bat since the Australian Matthew Elliott achieved the feat against Hampshire in Cardiff in 2004. He made decent use of a dead end-of-season game against Gloucestershire in Cardiff in 2017 to compile a career-best unbeaten 142.
After a torrid 2018, in which he failed to reach fifty in 23 Championship innings, he made 752 first-class runs in 2019, including 150 against Gloucestershire and a rearguard 99 against Sussex. An old-school opening batsman, Selman relies on crease occupation rather than an expansive game, though showed glimpses of a power game in the Blast in 2019.
