David Lloyd, a forceful middle-order batsman, is unusual in making his way into the Glamorgan set-up via North Wales. He was on the county's radar for a while and made his second XI debut aged just 16 in 2008. He attended Shrewsbury School, two years below England batsman James Taylor, and by 2011 was a regular for Glamorgan seconds and a year later was playing for Wellington in the Birmingham League.

2012 also saw his first-class debut where he made a pair at Headingley. It wasn't until the latter half of the 2014 season that he was given a run the Glamorgan first XI. He advanced during a consistent 2015 when - among regular batsmen - he topped Glamorgan's batting averages and was named as the county's Young Player of the Year. The following season added to a sense of progress only for his form in 2017 to be mediocre, and he suffered an injury that kept him out for several weeks.

A career-best 119 against Gloucestershire brought him personal release from a dismal wooden-spoon Championship season in 2018 as Glamorgan's faith in a young crop of Welsh players was not rewarded. The following year, he was the lone bright spark in an otherwise disastrous T20 campaign, hitting 358 runs with a strike rate of 140 to show off his expansive game.
