One of the lesser-known members of the Kirsten family, Andy had a very limited first-class career. He played 11 matches for Western Province between 1986-87 and 1989-90 and by the time his brother, Peter, and half-brother, Gary, were batting for South Africa his playing days were well behind him. He moved into coaching and in 2008 took on the Kenya job as they began building up to the 2011 World Cup after a previous spell with the team, as assistant coach, during the 2003 tournament.
