Peter Chase is a young pace bowler from Dublin who combines pace and bounce, although he can be erratic. He has a Cricket Ireland contract, and Ireland have first refusal over his services, but he has also been recruited by Durham. He made a terrific impression in his first county forays for Durham late in 2014, taking five wickets against Nottinghamshire on debut and 11 Championship wickets at 15.73 in the season. That suggested rapid improvement - Chase's performances in Irish domestic cricket had not been spectacular - and earned him a call-up for the Ireland squad in the autumn of 2014. Some encouraging performances, including four wickets against Queensland, were enough to convince the Irish selectors to take him to the World Cup.
