Sahara Cup 1998-99, third match

Inida v Pakistan

At Toronto, September 16. Pakistan won by 77 runs. Toss: India.

Ganguly, whose Sahara Cup form had hitherto been devastating, returned after injury, but for once he could do little to prevent a heavy defeat. Two fifties from Pakistan's top order were followed by some fireworks from Ijaz, who hit 43 from 21 balls. The loss of Ganguly, run out after a mix-up, sparked a collapse which, at 78 for six, took India to the brink of humiliation. This was averted by a muscular innings from Srinath, batting at No. 10. Saqlain Mushtaq, called away from Surrey's crucial last Championship match, bowled seven overs for just 14.

Man of the Match: Inzamam-ul-Haq.
