The Titans went to the top of the table at SuperSport Park, as they completed an emphatic eight-wicket win against Eastern
Cape.
Titans won the toss and fielded first, which proved to be a good decision as Eastern Cape were restricted to 146 for 6 in their 20
overs. Four batsmen made it into the twenties, but none could go on, thanks in no small part to Goolam Bodi, Andre Nel and Alviro Petersen, who clung onto three blinding catches. Nel led the way with the ball as well, conceding just nine runs in his four overs.
Jacques Rudolph and Andrew Hall then set Titans on course for victory with a
solid 59-run opening partnership in seven overs. Martin van
Jaarsveld followed up with 54, and Justin Kemp sealed the win with 17 deliveries to spare.
The Eagles scraped their way into the semi-finals with a thrilling three-run victory over the Lions at Goodyear Park. After winning the toss and batting first in very warm conditions, the Eagles rattled along at eight runs per over
throughout their innings. Their captain, Nicky Boje, top-scored with an unbeaten
38 from 29 deliveries while Davey Jacobs
waltzed in with 34 off 22. The hard-hitting Loots Bosman had just warmed up
when he was well caught and bowled by Goolam Bhayat for 34.
Chasing 162 was always going to be a tough task, and when the Lions lost both their openers in the first two overs, things looked bleak. Neil
McKenzie (36) and Matthew Harris (25) put the innings back on track with
61 runs coming off 38 balls, but then increased the pressure by falling within three
balls of each other. Vaughn van
Jaarsveld made 36 to get the Lions back into the game but they ended up three runs short after three run-outs
within seven balls.
The Eagles reach the semi-finals at the expense of the Dolphins, who were penalised a point for a slow over-rate.
