South Africa v New Zealand, 2005-06
South Africa v New Zealand, 2005-06
15-Apr-2006
At Johannesburg, October 21, 2005 (day/night). New Zealand won by five wickets. Toss: New Zealand.
South Africa's first taste of international Twenty20 cricket was watched by a packed house at
the Wanderers, but they went home disappointed after New Zealand completed an easy victory
with two overs to spare. Kallis and Smith, who hit ten fours and a six, started well enough after
South Africa were put in but, after they were parted at 84, the innings was throttled by Astle and
Jeetan Patel, the Wellington off-spinner, who both took three for 20. All ten wickets tumbled for
49, and New Zealand's victory was never in doubt once they had weathered a fiery spell from Nel.
Man of the Match: J. S. Patel.
