A maiden century to Clinton Perren set up a 94-run Queensland victory against Tasmania at the Gabba. Perren struck 117 from 118 balls and shared a stand of 153 with Craig Philipson (70) to guide the Bulls to 6 for 289.
Queensland, missing the Australia one-day players Andrew Symonds and Shane Watson, were 2 for 50 when Perren, who hit four sixes, and Philipson combined. "The opportunity was there to bat at three and having that added responsibility with our senior players away," Perren said.
Tasmania sped to 0 for 56 in the eighth over before Travis Birt and Michael Dighton were dismissed in five deliveries and they slipped to 6 for 125. James Hopes picked up four wickets in front of 15,918 spectators, the Gabba's second largest domestic one-day crowd, and Queensland took a six-point lead at the top of the ING Cup table.
