Bengal and Assam played the last day of the Ranji Trophy East Zone
league match at the North-East Frontier Railway Stadium, Guwahati, on
Wednesday. The match ended in a tame draw. The highlight of the last
day's game being the brilliant century scored by Assam opener Parag
Das. Assam were 292/5 at the close of play.
Assam who were 22/0 overnight did very well in the morning session.
Opener Subhrojit Saikia was the first to go in the 50th over. He made
a valuable 52 which included 7 fours as he helped Parag Das add 140
for the first wicket. Zakaria Zuffri joined Parag Das and put the
match away from Bengal with a commanding partnership of 98 in 28
overs. Parag Das was the next to go after making a brilliant century
of 118 in 236 balls. Parag was severe on Bengal bowlers as he belted
them for eighteen boundaries and two sixes. Parag was run out in the
78th over when the Assam score was an impressive 238. Assam soon lost
Nishanta Bordoloi for one, caught and bowled by Saurasish Lahiri.
Zakaria Zuffri looked like getting to a well deserved hundred but
faltered at 82 as he was stumped by Saba Karim of Utpal Chatterjee.
Zuffri was at the crease for 114 balls as he hit 12 boundaries and two
sixes. Utpal Chatterjee finished with 29-10-59-2. Bengal collected
five points and Assam three.
